The State of World Population 2017

The theme for the State of World Population 2017 report is “Worlds Apart – Reproductive health and rights in an age of inequality”. The late Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNFPA in his Foreword, highlighted the widening gaps in wealth with billions of people lingering at the bottom rung, being denied their human rights and prospects for a better life. Topics covered in the report are the inequality in health and rights; the intersection of inequalities in women’s health and rights and economic inequality; the costs of inequality; and towards equality by reaching the furthest behind first. The concluding chapter touches on inclusion within reach with action points for a more equal world.
